Obituary of Roy Edward Wirth
In the early morning of July 8th, 2023, Roy Edward Wirth, of Hopkins, MN, passed away at the age of 76, at Methodist Hospital. Roy is preceded in death by parents, Alphonso and Esther Wirth; brothers Alvin Wirth and Richard Wirth. He is survived by his wife Brenda Wirth; children Todd (Molly) Wirth and Scot (Susan) Wirth; grandchildren Jane, Evan, Tommy, and Sammy; and siblings Edith Wirth, Leona Truax, Leo (Marilyn) Wirth, and Allen (Carla) Wirth; as well as many, many nieces and nephews.
Roy was born in Enderlin, ND in 1946, and then moved to Bertha, MN with his family. He attended Bertha-Hewitt High School and graduated in 1964, before attending the University of Minnesota, where he majored in Business and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1968. (This is also where Roy developed his great love for Golden Gopher athletics!) After graduation, Roy eventually found his way to work for General Mills, where he happily crunched numbers and marketed their many products for 17 years. Upon leaving General Mills, Roy was one of the founding partners of Paragon Moving & Storage, which he successfully ran for 30 years. After pouring large amounts of blood, sweat, and tears into the family business, the business was sold in 2019 and continues to thrive to this day.
Roy was many things to many people – he was: a devoted and loving husband; a caring and proud father, and an adored grandfather; a supportive and (sometimes) antagonistic brother; a non-controversial high school and college football referee; an amazing baseball coach for many years; a neighbor that made the community a brighter and happier place; a caring and compassionate boss and mentor; a wonderful golfing companion; and a loyal friend to everyone who knew him. He was quick with a (bad) joke at all times, and he never turned down an opportunity to host, or join, a game of cards. He was always willing to help, however, he could, and would share a treat with any dog that walked past his house. His infectious laugh, bright smile, and warm demeanor will be forever missed.
Roy will be cremated at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, Edina Chapel and a celebration of life will be held at Mainstreet Bar & Grill, 814 Mainstreet, Hopkins, MN on Saturday, August 19th, between 1 pm and 5 pm.
Donations can be made to the Hopkins Activity Center to support Roy's most loved activities. https://tinyurl.com/RoyWirth
