Obituary of Cynthia Cushman Schreiner

In Loving Memory of Cynthia Cushman Schreiner

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Cindy Schreiner, who left this world on Sunday, July 2, 2023. She was generous with her time and love for family and friends and her loss has created a void that will never be filled. Her memory, however, will remain forever etched upon our hearts.

Cindy was born October 13, 1943 in Minneapolis, MN to Robert and Margery Cushman. She and her siblings, Robert (Janine) Cushman and Nancy (Bruce) Anderson grew up in Grand Marais, spending summers at the family resort on the Gunflint Trail. After graduating high school, Cindy was crowned Miss North Shore at the annual Fisherman’s Picnic. She went on to earn her nursing degree at Swedish School of Nursing in Minneapolis. While completing her psychiatric training in Rochester, MN she went on a blind date and met the love of her life, Tony Schreiner. A year later they were married.

Cindy led a vibrant life filled with love, laughter, and many cherished relationships. For 56 years, she and her adoring husband Tony built a partnership that exemplified devotion, love and support. Together, they built a strong foundation for their family, providing an exemplar of a happy and rewarding marriage that will endure throughout future generations.

As a mother, Cindy was an example of strength, kindness, and support for her three daughters, Sara (Patrick Vescio) Schreiner, Cathryn (Rick) Erickson, and Martha (John) Clark. She instilled within them values of compassion, independence, and resilience, shaping them into the remarkable individuals they are today. Her kindness and love extended to her three exceptional sons-in-law, who were warmly welcomed as members of the family.

Cindy adored her six grandchildren, Abbigail Clark, Luca Vescio Schreiner, Jozefa Vescio Schreiner, Natalie Clark, Mariella Vescio Schreiner, and Julia Erickson. She loved spending time with them on holidays and birthdays, at concerts and events in the cities, at her home for dinner, and at the Wooden Tent. Grammy loved traditions such as Disney on Ice and Tonic Sol Fa. Watching her grandkyds grow and flourish brought immeasurable pride and fulfillment to her heart. Most recently, Cindy became a great-grandmother to Quinn Kelly (Abbigail Clark). Cindy loved babies and was so excited to have a baby in her life again. She loved sharing photos, videos and stories of Quinn with everyone. Even the four grand dogs that she loved unconditionally contributed to the happiness that radiated from her presence.

Cindy's zest for life was evident in her passions and pursuits. She possessed a vibrant spirit, finding immense joy in entertaining friends and family, ensuring their time together was marked by laughter and warmth. Her love for socializing brought forth countless cherished memories and cemented her standing as a loyal and faithful friend.

In her leisure time, she delighted in playing cards and marbles, beloved pastimes that brought her great joy and friendly competition. Gathering around a table for a friendly game was an opportunity for Cindy to tell stories and jokes while laughing and creating lasting moments with those she held dear.

Her love for adventure and exploration led her on countless journeys across this beautiful world. The memories of her travels will forever remain embossed on the minds of her loved ones, serving as a reminder of the vibrancy with which she lived her life.

Cindy will be profoundly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her – family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by her boundless love. Her gentle demeanor, nurturing nature, and unwavering kindness will forever be remembered.

As we gather to celebrate her life and bid her farewell, let us take solace in knowing that Cindy is now at peace, watching over us all with an eternal love that can never be extinguished.

May her soul find eternal rest, and may her memory live on in our hearts.

Forever Loved, Forever Missed.
