Gary Gordon

Obituary of Gary Lee Gordon

Gary Lee Gordon (76 years young), of St. Louis Park, Minnesota passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, June 17, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer for over a decade.

Gary was born in Seattle, Washington on July 29, 1946, and later moved to Hopkins, Minnesota when he was young a boy. He attended and graduated from Hopkins High School. He continued his education at Dunwoody Vocational College for a degree in baking prior to being drafted into the Army. After serving in the Army, Gary worked for Red Owl for 19 years and spent the next 25 years passionately and proudly working as an Account Manager at Bell Boy Corporation.

Gary married the love of his life, Maechelle and soon after moved to their home in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. They lovingly raised their three children, who were active in youth sports and in their community. Gary volunteered and coached youth basketball and Little League baseball for many years in St. Louis Park. Gary was a dedicated, loving, and wonderful father who inspired his children to be the best they could be. During this time, Gary also played on a softball team called East End and was in a bowling league. His teammates and friends affectionately called him “Duck”.

In later years, Gary enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in their sports and activities. He was his grandchildren’s number one fan in whatever his grandchildren chose to do. He loved his grandchildren and granddog “Roo” very much. Gary was also an avid Vikings Fan and a Vikings Super Bowl hopeful. It was not unusual for Gary and Maechelle to watch sports together in separate rooms of the house yet cheering loud enough so they could enjoy the game together. Many of us know Gary did not enjoy traveling, but if it was to support his children or grandchildren he would go almost anywhere. Gary enjoyed eating Mexican food, game day buffalo dip, chips with sour cream, white castle burgers with jalapenos and drinking Coca Cola. Gary was a hard worker; he has instilled that same work ethic into his children and grandchildren. He often said he would work until the day he died, he did just that and he took a lot of pride in doing that.

Gary had an amazing support system, which was led by his loving wife. Of course, his children, grandchildren and his Hospice Team was what helped Gary know he would be well taken care of too. He was very appreciative and often let his family know how appreciative he was of all of them.

Gary is survived by his wife Maechelle Gordon; children Barbra (Tony) Williams; Shannon Gordon; Garrett (Denise) Gordon; six grandchildren; Anthony (Claire MiInes) Williams; Keagan Williams; Baillie Stevens; Tyrique Williams; Tristan Williams; Brandon Rodiles; brother in laws; sister in laws; nieces; nephews; great nieces and great nephews and was loved by many.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ellsworth and Elna Gordon and brother Roger Gordon.
