Obituary of Ronald A. Green
Ronald A. Green, age 83 of Burnsville, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on June 9, 2023.
Preceded in death by parents Arlie and Clara, first wife Glenda Sue (Scribner), brothers Ralph, Ray Dean, Sheldon, and sister Sharon.
Survived by wife Jan (Schueller), brother Randy (Carolyn), son Andy (Lisa Waldoch), daughter Tynetta Chastain (Greg), Stepdaughter Holly Margl (Matt Paar), seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Ron was born and raised in the panhandle of Texas and was a true Renaissance man throughout his life. He was an artist, draftsman, designer, woodworker, singer, speaker, editor, salesman, researcher, entrepreneur, and more.
His passion early in his career was refurbishing pianos with his father, culminating with the transformation of an old grand piano into a masterpiece that received rave reviews from a concert pianist. He also sang in his Dad’s Gospel Quartet and became the youngest member of the Piano Technicians Guild at 23.
He then moved into the corporate world at Irrigation Age magazine, which resulted in moves to Dallas, TX, and Maplewood, MN after they were acquired by Webb Publishing and his responsibilities expanded into other magazines. Ron stayed in that industry for 37 years and another passion he developed during this timeframe was Toastmasters, which led to one of his all-time favorite past-times later in life - telling jokes.
When he retired in 2005, he started The Strop Shop, a full-service sharpening business. His vision was to take what he called the “Arts of Sharpening” to a whole new level, and he achieved that during his 18-year retirement in many ways, including the invention of several new-to-the-world techniques and teaching other would-be sharpeners.
Celebration of Life Sunday July 9, 2023, at his home in Burnsville, MN from 2:00 to 5:00PM
