Obituary of Lois Elaine Scheel

Lois E. Scheel, 96, of Friendship Village, Bloomington, MN, died May 16, 2023.

Lois was born to Lloyd and Bertha (Linzbach) Seelig, February 23,1927, in Lisbon, ND.

Lois was married October 22, 1949, to Paul Scheel, and they had two children: Kathy (Gary) Raatz and Craig Scheel.

Lois attended St. John’s University where she received her registered nursing degree. Lois made many friends at St John’s University and had fond memories of those days. After marrying Paul, they made several early career moves, from Jamestown, ND, to Dickenson, ND, to Fargo, ND, back to Dickenson, ND, then to Omaha, NE, and to Winnipeg, MB, and finally to Minneapolis, MN, where they were happy to reside for the last 50 years.

Lois was very proud of her children. Kathy was the first female to graduate from the Industrial Engineering program at the University of North Dakota. Craig was stricken with muscular dystrophy, and both Lois and Paul devoted their lives to taking care of him. Lois has one grandchild, Ben Raatz, and two great grandchildren, Lilly Raatz and Layla Raatz.

Lois enjoyed her nursing career. It was not work, but something she loved to do. Outside of nursing, Lois enjoyed her vacations to Florida and loved playing bridge and reading. Of course, spending 50 years in Minneapolis she became an avid Twins/Vikings fan. Lois had a great sense of humor and there was always laughter when she was around. She will be missed.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Scheel; children, Kathy Raatz and Craig Scheel; and brother Eldon Seelig. Lois is survived by her sister, Dian Poitras.
