Obituary of Alexander Louis Wurl

Alexander Louis Wurl, 34, born on June 24, 1988, in Minneapolis, MN, died tragically on May 11, 2023, after being struck by a vehicle while riding to his St. Paul home on his motorcycle.

Alex loved music, books, motorcycles and cars, fighting for social justice, his many friends, his cats, and most of all, his family. He is survived by his wife and the love of his life, Crystal Lorenz-Wurl, and his two stepchildren, Lucy and Thomas Sutton; parents, Mary (Wester) Wurl and Joel Wurl, and sister, Angela Wurl; aunts, Jane Wester, Grace (Denis) Christianson, and Lynette Wallace, and uncle, William Wurl; his best friend and chosen brother, Jeffrey Klepel, mother-in-law, Mari (Brian) Pillar and father-in-law, Mike (Robin) Diaz, as well as cousins and an abundance of close friends he loved.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, June and Louis Wester, and his paternal grandparents, Betty and Howard Wurl.

Music was a thread that ran through all of Alex’s life. His guitar playing was a source of pleasure for him and anyone lucky enough to hear him play. He had an eclectic taste in the music he listened to, and he loved to share it with his family and friends (especially when it included a great guitar player). In addition to collecting and playing guitars, he collected and loved to ride motorcycles. Road trips and track days at Brainerd International and Dakota County Technical College with his friends, watching Moto GP on television or in person, or just shining up his bikes in the garage – they were a source of entertainment and joy. He also loved to read and share books with friends and family, and to argue about politics. He was a bold defender of human and civil rights.

Alex was a true and loyal friend to many people throughout his life. He knew how to make people feel comfortable and valued, and his death has left a huge hole in the hearts of so many, from Harding and Creative Arts High Schools and Dakota County Technical Institute where he earned his AAS degree to his places of employment, most recently the White Bear Superstore, as well as many other people he encountered throughout his life.

Alex loved Crystal most of all. The life they were building for their family and the plans they had for their future gave him the greatest joy.

A Celebration of Life will be Sunday, May 21st, 2023 at Cremation Society of MN, 1979 Old Hudson Road, St Paul, MN. Service will be at 1PM with a visitation a half hour prior.
