Jay Fogelberg

Obituary of Jay Carl Fogelberg

Jay “Joey” Carl Fogelberg, of Eden Prairie, passed away on April 27th after going toe-to-toe with Mother Earth for 77 years.

Jay was born on July 7th, 1945 to proud parents Trudy and Carl Fogelberg of Saint Paul, Minn. Trudy would later be crowned the most patient and saintly mother on Summit Avenue.

After Jay graduated from the University of Minnesota high school in 1963, he continued his studies (and mostly stunts) at Gustavus Adolphus College. Four years and a few battered dorm rooms later, the college administration was relieved to hand him and his fellow Phi Alphas a diploma.

After a brief attempt as an international intermediary at the University of Exeter in England, Jay buckled down and earned his law degree from the University of Kentucky.

By 1975 Jay’s passion for his passions naturally led him to self-employment — he could remain master of his professional domain and govern his golf game. He served as an arbitrator in the public and private sectors for over 45 years. In 1999 he was awarded "Distinguished Service in Labor Arbitration" from the American Arbitration Association.

Good-time Joey could often be found swearing at his clubs, swaying to Santana, lighting the cocktail lamp, or clutching a dark-chocolate-covered…anything.

Jay is survived by his wife Patricia, daughters Leah Fogelberg, Laura (Tyler) Lineburg and Annika Fogelberg, sister Nancy Fogelberg, and grandchildren Jack (4) and Olivia (2). His antics will be missed by many more.

Services will be held at 5:30pm on May 24th at Edina Country Club. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Jay Fogelberg’s memorial fund which will support his many passions.
