Obituary of Jacqueline Olivia Morrow
Jacqueline Olivia Schmid Ellefson Morrow, also known as Jackie, passed away on April 20, 2023, in Bloomington, MN, at the age of 92. She was born on September 16, 1930, in Minnewaukan, North Dakota, to Bertha Beck Schmid Hiaasen and Edward Schmid. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Marguerite Schmid Claypool and Barbara Schmid Dove, and her husbands Paul Ellefson and Jack Morrow. Jackie was survived by her son, Jeffrey (Gwen) Ellefson; daughter Sonia Ellefson Anderson; grandsons Eric (Angie) Ellefson, Adam Ellefson, Bryce Ellefson, Daniel (Kayla) Ellefson; Franklin Anderson, and William Anderson; great-grandsons Ole and Luca Ellefson; brother Edward Schmid; sister Mary O’Briant; and numerous beloved nephews and nieces. Jackie obtained an Associate’s Degree in education and taught briefly in the early 1950s before devoting herself for several years to homemaking and raising her children. She then worked many years as a self-taught and very proficient bookkeeper/accountant at several entities, the first of which was Bayer’s Hardware Store in Minneapolis and the last being Christ Presbyterian Church in Edina, where she and Jack also worshipped. No penny went unaccounted for under her watch! After retiring from Christ Presbyterian she worked in retail at Herberger’s Department Store in Bloomington until the age of 80. Within a few years the store ceased to be profitable - not sure if there was a connection. She genuinely seemed to love every job she had and made many friends wherever she was. In her free time, she loved playing cards and obtained the level of Life Master in Bridge, which was her passion. She would play any game, including Crazy Eights, Buck, Hand and Foot and Cribbage. She liked to win, and if she lost twice in a row you were probably going to play a different game. She also enjoyed knitting and quilting, walking around Lake Harriet (keeping careful track of her time), hiking in the Arizona desert, and trying out whatever anyone else suggested. Jackie will be remembered as smart, passionate, joyfully competitive, enthusiastic, social, fun-loving and hardworking. She deeply loved her family and friends and they loved her back. A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Presbyterian Church in Edina, MN, on Thursday, May 18 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with refreshments to follow the service. There will also be a graveside service and celebration of life in Minnewaukan, North Dakota, at 3:00 on May 20. The family has asked that memorial contributions be sent to the Hennepin County Library in Minnesota or a charity of your choice.
