Obituary of Edward John Nelson
Edward (Ed) John Nelson, 80, of Bloomington, Minnesota, passed away on March 27th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in October, 1942 and graduated from De La Salle high school in 1960. He then went into the Marine Corps and was honored to serve for four years. He began his career as an electronics technician at Univac, first in Minnesota and later in El Paso, Texas. He then moved back to Minnesota and in 1971, joined the Bloomington Police Department, where he proudly served for 27 years. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time at the golf course delivering golf carts and interacting with golfers.
As a policeman, one of his favorite roles was being the liaison officer at Bloomington Kennedy High School. The students were very fond of him and enjoyed his dry sense of humor. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports, going to breakfast with his friends, playing golf, hunting, fishing, watching NCIS, and most importantly, spending time with his family.
Ed is survived by his wife, of 58 years, Margaret (Scanlan) Nelson. Two children, Steve (Dawn) Nelson and Krista Nelson. Ed was blessed with five grandchildren, Andrew (Victoria) Nelson, Taylor Nelson (Aaron Judd), Alyssa (Nic) Jensen, Nicole (Kyle) Kriewall, Hannah Nelson; 4 great-grandchildren, Tucker and Lily Jensen, Vivian Nelson, Baby Kriewall (due in August), and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ellen (Quigley) Nelson and 9 siblings, Helen, Joan, Janet, Jim, Andy, Herb, Noreen, Arlene, and Ruth.
