Lawrence Poulter

Obituary of Lawrence B. Poulter

Lawrence B. Poulter, 94, passed on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016 to meet Jesus and experience the beauty and joys of heaven. Larry was born in Cumberland, Wis. to Alfred and Minnie Poulter. He married his wife Peggy after he returned from World War II in 1946 and lived in Milwaukee, Wis., until called up for the Korean conflict. After Larry came back to the States, they moved to Duluth and raised two children. They lived on Park Point before moving to their home in Lakeside where he resided for the last 59 years. He worked for Wallner Welding and Eutectic Corporation from which he retired in 1985. There are two words that describe Larry's life: pride and responsibility. He was proud of his service to our Country. He retired from the Air Force Reserves as a Lt. Colonel. He took pride in learning new things whether it was welding, machining, learning to play the guitar or organ and in later years - computers. He was proud of his ability to fix anything. He especially enjoyed working with the Good Shepherd Church building committee helping to repair what was broken. In addition to his responsibility to serve, Larry also had the responsibility to provide for his family which sometimes required more than one job. He felt his greatest responsibility was to set a good example to others. Larry was a fixture in the same pew every Sunday and was well known and loved by many of his church family. Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy and his parents. Larry is survived by two sons, Robert (Barbara) of Duluth and William (Peg) of Cohasset; five grandchildren, (Leslie, David, Jennifer of Duluth, Laura, Brad (Dannielle) of Grand Rapids; two great-grandchildren, (Patrick, Bryce); brothers, George of Colorado and Richard of Texas. VISITATION: 10 a.m. Friday Nov. 18 until 11 a.m. Memorial Service in Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Duluth. If desired and in lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1325 N 45th Ave E, Duluth, MN 55804.
