Obituary of Wendell Lamont Murphy

MURPHY, Wendell Lamont, age 96, of Maple Grove, MN, passed away Nov. 19, 2016. He was born to Ruby (Anderson) and Thomas Murphy on Nov. 1, 1920. He was a 1938 graduate of Sharon High School. Wendell was a WWII Army Veteran. He served in the South Pacific Theater, 1942-1945, with the 41st Division, Combat Engineer as a Staff Sergeant. He was a 42 year employee of the Westinghouse Electric Corp. – Industrial Engineer. He married Betty Jane Whitehead of Brookfield, OH on Oct. 21, 1946. She preceded him in death in 2010. He is survived by two daughters, Wendy Muntean (Sam) of Spring Lake, MN, and Becky J. Murphy of Brooklyn Park, MN; four grandchildren, Melissa Campbell (Brian) of Maple Grove, MN, Jeanne Lundell (David) of Dayton, MN, Stacy Brakefield (Greg) of New Germany, MN, and Samuel Muntean (Heather) of Madison, MN; and ten great grandchildren. He is also survived by his two sisters, Jean McCann of Sharpsville, PA, and Lois Letcher of Cortland, OH. Wendell was a long time member of Gideon International. He and Betty were charter members of the Sand Lake Alliance Church of Sand Lake, MN. Wendell and Betty will be interred at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to World Vision and MN Disabled Veterans.
