Obituary of Helen Ann DeGroot

Helen DeGroot was born on September 17, 1933, near Brainerd, MN and passed away on March 6, 2023. It was not until her mid-twenties that she moved to Minneapolis and worked her way up in various administrative positions. One day when entering the up elevator to her apartment she met Harvey DeGroot, who also lived in the same building. They would chat about assorted topics until Harvey got the nerve to ask her out. They enjoyed over fifty years of marriage together until Harvey passed away in 2015. 

Harvey worked for many years with General Mills starting with the auditing department in Minneapolis. He was then transferred to Kankakee, Illinois where he became the Office Manager. The next stop was Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He and Helen loved Toronto. He rose to become the VP Controller of General Mills Canada. 

Helen was a highly creative soul with a sly sense of humor. She wrote numerous short stories, poetry and was also a prolific sketch artist. Helen was the Social Chairman at the Point of France for several years. She loved organizing the Fall Party, the December Holiday Party, the Spring Tea, and the Summer Picnic. Her creative nature will be missed. 

The Funeral Service will take place on Monday, April 17th at the Cremation Society of MN, 7110 France Ave, Edina (952-924-4100) with the visitation beginning at 11am and the service to begin at Noon. A luncheon will follow at the Point of France social room at 2pm.
