Obituary of David Dake Chatfield

David Chatfield (89) passed away of natural causes in his home in Bloomington on Monday, February 27th, 2023.

David graduated from Minneapolis West High School in 1952. He served 4 years in the US Navy and recalled them fondly. He married the love of his life, Donna Niebuhr, in June 1957. He worked for Sperry Unisys for 35 years as a systems programmer.

David is preceded in death by his father David Sr., his mother Margaret, his brother John, and his sister Nancy.

He is survived by his wife Donna; his two sons Kurt (Luann) and Dake (Deirdre); and his grandchildren Joshua, Sarah, Marsden, and Avery; and his two favorite dogs Gracie and Molly.

David was extremely well loved. Wherever he went, joy and laughter were soon to follow. He had a charming smile, a giving heart, and a sharp mind. He was quick to offer up a riddle and was even quicker to solve one. He was incredibly caring, which was evident through his abundant giving and service. David spent years raising his children, Dake and Kurt, and loving his grandchildren. He loved spending time outdoors and waterfowl hunting. David was known for his cunning cribbage and croquet playing. He and Donna went on many adventures in their retirement years. He was a wonderful father, husband, and grandfather and will be sorely missed.
