Obituary of Kay Haff Teichroew

Kay Haff Teichroew went to a better place on the evening of February 9, 2023, after a valiant battle with lung cancer.

Kay was born in Montevideo, Mn on November 7, 1949 to Stanley and Violet “Augeson” Haff. She grew up on a farm near Watson, MN with 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

She graduated from high school in Milan, MN in 1967. She had a close-knit class and stayed in touch with her classmates. She never missed a class reunion. She nannied for a family in the Twin Cities in the summers of her junior and senior year. She worked for State Farm, REC, Fingerhut, Egg Plant, and became a CNA at the Westbrook, MN nursing home. She also baby sat for multiple families in the area.

She became ill with an autoimmune disease in 1979. She was unable to work outside the home. She crocheted many blankets, scarves, Christmas stockings, table clothes, doilies, and table runners. She used to sew clothes for her children when they were little. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and having her family come to visit. She loved sharing her baked goods with others. She was an active member of the Bethany Lutheran Church.

She was married to David Teichroew on September 5, 1969. They were blessed with 2 children, Kerstin (Brian) Cooley of Windom, MN, and David Zachary Teichroew, Zion, IL. She is blessed with 2 grandchildren Sara Cooley, 26 of Windom, MN and Mitchell Cooley, 23 of Windom, MN. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She had a constant companion of her dog Roxie. Roxie was her best friend and kept her company when Dave was fishing. She was preceded in death by her parents, all 3 brothers and one sister, one brother-in-law Richard Teichroew. She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, and one sister Carol (Don) Schutz of Elko, MN, sister-in-law Dawn (Bob) Haff, sister-in-law Linda (Lowell) Haff, sister in law Paulette (Bill) Haff, and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of Life in Storden, Mn in the spring. The date will be announced at a later date. All friends and family are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers or plants, please send a donation in honor of Kay Teichroew to the Ronald McDonald House Foundation and the Children’s Miracle Network in Sioux Falls, SD. These foundations were very near to her heart as they helped during the time her grandson, Mitchell, was ill.
