Obituary of Helen Angeline Thome

Helen Thome, age 94, passed away on January 24 at Mother of Mercy Care Center. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her.

Helen was born August 6, 1928, in Collegeville, Minnesota, to Bernard and Mary Zazek (Pflueger). She married Albert Thome on June 17, 1947 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and they made their home in Avon. She was a member of the St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Christian Women, and Avon Seniors. She was a member of her card club for over 65 years and looked forward to playing 500 with her friends each month.

Her family, friends, and faith were the loves of her life.

Helen is survived by her children, Tom (Patty) Thome, Karen (Bill)Patefield, Rick (Diane) Thome and Terri (Michael) Walker; 7 Grandchildren and 14 Great-grandchildren; her sisters, Joan Ditty and Pat Bogard; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; her parents, Bernard and Mary Zazek; her sisters, Irene Schirmers, Mary Stack, and Verna Burns.

A Celebration of Mom’s Life will be held on June 8, 2023, at the Church of St. Benedict at 212 1st St SW, Avon, MN 56310. There will be a visitation from 9:00-11:00 am followed by a mass at 11:00 am. 

A private interment at St. Benedict’s Parish Cemetery will be held at a later date.
