Kim Hunter

Obituary of Kim Michael Hunter

Kim Michael Hunter, 74, of Maple Grove, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2023, at North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale with his family at his side.

Kim was born August 11, 1948, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to George J. and Jacquelin V. (Enright) Hunter.  He grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, graduating from Patrick Henry High School in 1966 and St. Cloud State College in 1971 . He worked for 32 years as a claims representative for the Social Security Administration until his retirement in 2003.

On October 6, 1979, Kim married the love of his life, Shari Swartz, in Alexandria, Minnesota.  They were blessed with two sons, Brent J. Hunter and Alex B. Hunter.

Kim had a passion for youth baseball and loved watching his sons play as they grew up.  He loved fishing, hunting, and the 23 summers spent at Shores of Leech Lake in Walker, which he called Heaven on Earth.  After suffering the first of several strokes in 2000, he took up writing poetry to retrieve words that were often elusive, and wrote over 150 poems.  He went on to write an autobiography and a fantasy/science fiction trilogy.  While never published, he enjoyed spending countless hours typing and creating stories.

Kim survived many health obstacles and we prayed he could survive one more, but it was not to be.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, grandparents, aunts and uncles, Shari’s parents and sister.

Kim is survived by his wife, Shari, sons, Brent and Alex, and very special granddaughter, Amanda Rekowski.  He is also survived by his step-mother, Mary Hunter, brothers, Tom (Paula) Hunter and Chris (Sarah) Hunter, in-laws, Marla (Nick) Weckman and Michael Trettel, many nieces, nephews, special cousin, Denise Simonett, and many friends, including childhood friend, Wayne (Bonnie) Ringate.

A Celebration of Life will be held on February 4, 2023, in the Community Room at Arbor Glen Apartments, 9325 Garland Lane N., Maple Grove, MN, from noon to 3:00 pm, with a time of commemoration at 1:00 pm.

Many thanks to the doctors and nurses at North Memorial Health Hospital and the staff at Good Samaritan Society of Robbinsdale.
