Obituary of Bridget Teresa Campbell
Bridget Teresa Campbell, 96, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2023, in Brainerd, MN surrounded by family.
Teresa (known as Bridie in Ireland) was born December 6, 1926, in Clooncrim, Co. Roscommon, Ireland to Patrick & Margaret (McDonnell) Waldron. She was the youngest of 9 children. When she was 17, she moved to Surrey, England for nurses training. It was the end of WWII and she cared for soldiers returning from the war. Around 1948 she went to America on the Queen Elizabeth II to meet her oldest brother, Michael, who left home before she was born. She worked at Muhlenberg Hospital, Plainfield, NJ where she met Dr. Roger Bruce Campbell and eventually asked him to marry her. They wed on January 6, 1951, and together began a general practice in Yardville, NJ. They also established and were active in the Yardville First Aid Ambulance Squad. On March 24, 1968, her husband passed away. They had a large practice, and Teresa made sure all patients were taken care of. She was courageous and walked with God, as always, through the following difficult years. In 1969 she became the Industrial Nurse for the General Electric plant in Trenton. She enjoyed her time at GE – the new challenges and people who worked there. She was very proud of setting up a state-of-the-art hearing evaluation clinic utilizing the newest technology available. Teresa moved on and became a nurse at The Peddie School in Hightstown, NJ eventually becoming the head nurse until her retirement in 1996. She was a member of the Sons & Daughters of Erin. She moved to Williamsburg, VA in 2015.
Teresa loved her profession and carried it into retirement helping neighbors and friends. She was generous of heart, time, money and action. Teresa loved knitting and made hundreds of baby blankets, sweaters, mittens, scarfs and hats for those in need. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She spent hours playing with her grandchildren or teaching them about God. She loved to spend time gardening and keeping her backyard pool immaculate. She taught many family and friend’s children to swim (even though she couldn’t!). Teresa loved to travel and made many trips to Ireland and around the US into her late 70s, including camping adventures to Alaska, the northwest, upper mid-west, and southeast Canada with grandkids.
Teresa was predeceased by her parents, her husband, 8 siblings, 7 nephews, and 2 nieces. She is survived by her children Margaret Anderson (Larry) and Dr. Russell Campbell (Carolyn); 7 grandchildren-
Andersons: Russell (Elsa), Josh (Jessica), Zach (Alissa); Campbells: Teresa, Brian (Heather), Katie and Sean; niece Geraldine Lewis (Kevin) in NJ; many loving nieces and nephews in Ireland and 11 great grandchildren.
Teresa was a good and faithful servant to the Lord her God, family, friends and anyone in need. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to your local food bank, homeless shelter, or Community Preparatory School for inner city youth: https://www.communityprep.org/pages/ways-to-give
Memorial Celebrations will be arranged at a much later date in Minnesota and New Jersey.
