Obituary of Robert Charles LaPorte Sr.
On Wednesday December 28, 2022 our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother, Robert (Bob) LaPorte, Sr., age 78, with his wife and family by his side, lost his hard fought battle with an aggressive cancer.
He was born in Superior, WI to Percy and Ethel LaPorte and grew up in Allouez Acres with siblings Les, Nancy, Joyce, Barb, Bea, Penny, Roger, Gary, Jeff and Jim. He attended St. Anthony grade school, East High School and Superior Voc. Tech.
He married the love of his life, Cecelia (Sis) Burbul, in 1962 in Carlton, MN. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in August 2022, it was such a wonderful day full of love and laughter.
Bob spent 47 years at Fraser Shipyards as a welder, foreman, and finished his career as general foreman. He enjoyed coaching basketball and baseball for his sons Luke & Paul and later for his grandchildren. Over the years he enjoyed hunting and fishing, many vacations, camping and traveling with his wife and family. He liked to keep himself busy by tinkering in the garage, tending to his many gardens and having breakfast, lunch and dinner dates with family and friends.
Family meant the world to Bob. He will be forever missed by his soulmate, Sis, children: Rob (Val), Theresa (Alan), Luke (Connie), and Paul (Cathy), grandchildren: Zach (Anna), Kevan (Rachel), Tyler (Paige), Kyle, Rochelle (Justin), Reese (Annie), Rylee (Brandon), Max, Sam, Trenton, Josie (Ryan), Nolan (Morgan), Brooke (Vance), Toni (Brian), 20 great-grandchildren, and his brothers and sisters.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter-in-law, Julie La Porte; great grandchildren Dillon & Logan Zembo, nephews Steve LaPorte, Tony Burbul and nieces Beth DeGraf, Kim Burbul and many aunts and uncles.
A special thank you to the doctors and nurses who cared for Bob and treated him and his family with great compassion.
