Obituary of Violet P Arnold

Violet P. Arnold, age 83 years, old crossed over to her heavenly Father the morning of October 24th, 2022, while in long-term care at Lyngblomsten in St. Paul, MN. Born of Harvey Elector Newton and Thelma Lee Mack Newton on January 29, 1939 in El Dorado, Arkansas. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son Glen Paggett (Christina Lee Paggett), daughter Donna Arnold-Dungy (Dr. Linden Dungy) and her daughter Phenice Arnold (who has preceded her homecoming), her grandsons, Corey Chartrand (Lisa Chartrand), Branden Dungy (Sarah Dungy), and Alon Dungy, and great granddaughter Aaliyah Dungy.

Violet comes from a very large family which include her siblings Harvey Chester Newton, Emmie Lee Newton, Vicky Smith, Ricky Smith, Edith Donell Reedy-Scoggins (Tony), Billy Ray Junior. She is preceded in death by Jewel Newton, Joy Lee Newton, LaWade Newton, Tony Smith, her grandparents Andrew Jackson Newton & Mattie Idell Gatson Newton and Pearl Mack.

She also has several half sisters and brothers which include Loretta Newton Gatson (Seth), Marcia Newton White, Harvey Elector Newton, Jr (deceased), Valerie Chanell Joffrion (Barry), Darin Andrew Newton, Jimmy Dean Newton, (Diane), Jennifer Joyce Newton

Violet was the first of her family to go to college and earn a degree. She first attended Grambling State University, then went on to receive here Associate’s Degree from Yakima Valley College of Nursing (1965), then went on to receive a B.S. Degree in psychology from the University of Minnesota (1974) and then on to receive a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Wisconsin River Falls (984).

Her work experience includes from 1965 through 1969, working as a registered nurse at Yakima Valley Hospital (Yakima, WA) and as the Assistant Head Nurse at Western State Hospital (Steilacoom, WA). Then moving to the state of Minnesota she worked until 1971 she worked part of a team responsible for supervising college students living in the dormitories at Hamline University (St. Paul, MN). In addition she was on staff at Mount Sinai Hospital (Minneapolis, MN) providing psychological counseling to children of drug addicted parents. From there, Violet moved into private practice as a licensed psychological counselor where she provided service throughout Minnesota until her retirement in 2016. Her services operated mainly through Very Personal Incorporated (aka VP Incorporated). While performing her counseling management services, among her successful projects included her Double Dutch program and Change management which she was particularly proudest of. Violet has a rich history of helping and developing the communities in which she has lived. She leaves behind a legacy that lives on in all she has helped and all who has learned and grown under her care. She will be missed.

A celebration of her Life will be held December 16, 2022 at the Cremation Society 1979 Old Hudson Road, St. Paul, MN 55119. Visitation from 1-4 pm and informal service at 4-5 pm.
