Obituary of Jack A Sartell
Jack A. Sartell, Age 98, of Bloomington, died November 18, 2022, after a long illness. Jack was born in the summer of 1924 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Henry and Amalia (Molly)) Sartell. As a youth, he delivered newspapers and worked as a caddy at a local golf course. He loved sports playing football and hockey in high school. After graduation Jack worked in the shipyards north of San Francisco as a sheet metal worker, earning money for college. He attended the University of Minnesota earning undergraduate and graduate degrees. It was at the U of MN that he met the love of his life, Virginia Wilson. They married in 1951. The newly married couple moved to New Kensington, Pennsylvania, where Jack worked at Alcoa Research Lab. The next move was to the University of Wisconsin, where Jack worked as an instructor and grad student. He earned a Ph.D. in metallurgical engineering. The family moved to Minnesota where Jack worked at the Honeywell Research Center in Hopkins.
In retirement, Jack enjoyed bowling and golf, and many volunteer activities. He was active in his church.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one nephew, and his loving wife. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Sartell: his god-child, Leslie Millette, four nieces, one nephew, and extended relatives and friends. Jack’s soft, gentle voice and wry sense of humor will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life for Jack will be held at Saint Luke’s Lutheran Church, 1701 W Old Shakopee Rd, Bloomington, on Friday, December 2, 2022, at 11:00 AM. Visitation will take place one hour before service time. Luncheon to follow. Memorials preferred to the St. Luke’s Foundation
