Obituary of Joan Helen (Whittemore) Jacobson

Joan H. (Whittemore) Jacobson, 87, of Edina died September 23, 2022, at The Moments care center in Lakeville MN.

Joan was a ginger beauty with a warm and gracious smile. Always exquisitely dressed, Joan loved sharing time at restaurants, cinemas, art museums and concerts with her many friends, who describe her as a good listener, great companion and loving mother. Shopping was her passion, and Joan knew by name many of the proprietors at Galleria in Edina. She loved music and read avidly.

Born and raised in Minneapolis, Joan graduated from Washburn High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota. She began work as an elementary school teacher in California, then returned to Minnesota and joined Northwest Airlines as a flight attendant. She married Len (Jake) Jacobson, also from Minneapolis. They returned to San Diego while Jake served in the Navy. The couple had one child, Tracy, Joan’s greatest joy and most cherished treasure. After moving back to Minneapolis, Joan served as office manager at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church counseling office for 25 years.

Joan is preceded in death by parents Kenneth Sr. and Helen Whittemore. She is survived by daughter Tracy and son-in-law, Paul Anderson; Brother & sister-in-law Kenneth Jr. and Twink Whittemore. Her many extended family members and wonderful friends remember Joan fondly.

Family and friends are invited to her memorial service at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church 5025 Knox Ave S. Minneapolis MN 55419, Tuesday October 25, 2022, at 1:30 pm with visitation one hour prior.
