Obituary of Robert Rich

Robert “Bob” Rich passed away on October 5th, 2022 at the age of 86, at North Shore Estates in his hometown of Duluth, MN. He retained his sense of humor and his positivity, often expressed in song, despite his limited mobility and declining health.

Bob was born to Cosmo and Mary Rich (Ricci), who were first generation immigrants from Bioano, Italy, on August 10, 1936. After graduating from Denfeld High School, Bob joined the Marines and served honorably for 4 years. Then, he obtained his bachelor’s degree from UMD and master’s degree in Ancient History from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. He began his career teaching Ancient Civilization and Medieval History at UMD and later worked in real estate and property management at Stephenson & Company. Faith was also an important part of Bob’s life as a member of the former Good Shepherd Catholic Church and St. James Catholic Church.

He remained a Marine, ancient history buff and proud Italian throughout his life and shared stories about those things he loved with his friends, children and grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his children, Ann Longnaker of Duluth and Matthew (Heather) Rich of Lincolnshire, IL; his grandchildren, Abigail Longnaker, Natalie Rich, Charles Rich and Henry Rich.

A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM with a service to follow at 11:00 AM on October 10th, 2022 at St. James Catholic Church in Duluth. Memorials are preferred to St. James Catholic Church, Duluth, MN.
