Obituary of Delores Evelyn Daniels

Delores Evelyn Daniels—a much-loved mother of two, grandmother of seven, and great-grandmother of nine—passed away peacefully on September 25, 2022. She was 90 years old.

Delores was born in Minneapolis on July 20, 1932, to Charles and Evelyn (Rockne) Wassom. She married George Edward Daniels, from rural Todd County, Minnesota, in 1951. Delores and George had two daughters—Denise and Lila—and the family worked hard to build a successful dairy farm near Bertha. After selling the farm, the couple deepened their involvement in their community in Bertha and, later, Duluth. Delores and George were married 54 years, until his passing in 2006. With a twinkle in her eye, Delores often described herself as “a city girl who married a farm boy.” Throughout her life, Delores kept two photos framed on her wall—her wedding photo and an aerial image of the farm.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Delores was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Larry Dolezal. She is survived by daughters Denise Schwartz and Lila [Virgil] Boehland; grandchildren Shana [Kim Davis] Dolezal, Andrea [Duane Allen] Boehland, Jessica Boehland, Jamie [Jennifer] Dolezal, Bobbie [Matthew] Nuytten, Nicolette [Matthew] Waldman, and Christina Ulrich; great-grandchildren Hannah Dolezal, William Dolezal, Lexi Nuytten, Amelia Nuytten, Eisa Allen, Alma Allen, Alexandra Waldman, Penelope Ristau, and Eliana Waldman; and cousins Charlene Crandall and George Cruys.

Delores will be buried next to George in Woodman Cemetery in Clarissa, Minnesota. A graveside ceremony will be held on October 15, 2022, at 11:30 AM, with food and fellowship to follow at the Bertha Community Center. Arrangements are by Cremation Society of Minnesota, Duluth. Memorials preferred to Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank. Delores’s family would like to thank the staff of New Perspective in Cloquet—especially Judy, Jamie, Lori, Mary, and Ross—for their excellent and compassionate care of Delores over the past several years.
