Obituary of Lloyd Graydon Newell
Newell, Lloyd Graydon, age 95, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather passed away on Monday, September 12 at the Heart to Home Mendota Manor, Mendota Heights, Minnesota. Graydon, as he was known most of his life, is survived by his children Richard (Kathy) and Robert (Mary); Grandchildren Kristine Knorp, Anne Newell, James (Lauren) Newell, Joseph Newell (Kristina), Laura (Jerry) Peck and Lily (Mitchell) Borman; Great Grandchildren Natalie Kaehler, Jacob Newell, Alexander Knorp, Kaiya Peck, Dominic Knorp, Avery Knorp, Allison Newell, Grant Newell and Eric Newell: niece Sandra (David) Goddard and nephew Gary (Juli) Wekkin; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Pat and Roger Arent. Proceeding him in death was his wife Jean Newell, his parents Esther and Lloyd Newell, his sister and brother-in-law Almeda and Don Wekkin, his niece Verla (Doug) Davis and numerous in-laws. Graydon grew up on a farm outside of Durand, Wisconsin. He Graduated from High School in 1944 and attended Hamline University. After marrying Jean in 1946, they moved from Durand to St. Paul where he was employed by Group Health Mutual Insurance Company (later becoming MidAmerica Insurance Company) as the Director of Claims. In 1968 he moved to Group Health Plan, currently known as HealthPartners. He retired in 1988 as Manager, Actuarial Services and Underwriting. He was the 17th person to join HealthPartners when it was first formed in the 1950’s. Graydon and Jean moved from St. Paul to New Brighton in 1957. They built a house in 1966 in New Brighton, where he lived until recently. Additionally, they owned a cabin on Nisswa Lake for many years. In retirement, Graydon liked to spend his winters in a more southern climate initially in New Braunfels, Texas and then in Mesa, Arizona. In his last years Graydon worked on keeping himself in shape, watching sports and particularly old movies. His Memorial Service will be held at Faith United Methodist Church, 2708 33rd Ave NE, St. Anthony at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2022. Any memorials, which are not requested, can be made to the Faith United Methodist Church.
