Preceded in death by her parents Alfred John and Louise Cecilia (Wiegele) McDonough, siblings and their spouses, Victor (Margie), Earl (Shirley), Gerald (Shirley), Elizabeth Obrecht and Mary (Neil) Ostlund, son-in-law Steven Gervais, a stillborn son and former spouse Chuck Stevens.

Shirley attended St. Margaret’s Academy and worked for many years at Hennepin County Medical Center as a Health Unit Coordinator. She volunteered as a Guardian ad Litem for Hennepin County, advocating for maltreated children in court and as a “Rockin’ Reader" at Valley View Elementary in Bloomington. Being a mother was her most treasured job, one she lovingly embraced until the end and insisted, "I loved it!".  A wonderful sense of humor served her and us, well. She enjoyed spending time at the Lake (Carlos), traveling (Caribbean and Mediterranean cruises, Mexico and Ireland), playing Bingo and watching her favorite show “Jeopardy”. She followed current events and was happy to cast her vote in the last election (at 91). She was especially proud of her Irish and Mdewakanton Dakota heritage. We're so thankful for her love and life!
