Obituary of Karen Leah Nelson

Karen Leah Nelson (Jakubek), 59, passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday August 24th, 2022 at the Solvay Hospice House. She was born September 20th, 1962 in Duluth, Minnesota to Chester and Inga Jakubek. She worked at Essentia Health in Duluth for 41 faithful years.

Karen had a great love for the outdoors, traveling, camping, fishing, baking, concerts, crafts, gardening, and being with her dog. Above all, she took pleasure in spending time with her friends and family. 

She is preceded in death by her loving parents.

Karen is survived by her son Scott Nelson, granddaughter Brooklyn Nelson, significant other Tofa Tuinei and his son Aiden Tuinei, brother David Jakubek, sisters Cheryl Jakubek, Diane Shanks (Jakubek), and Sandy Herrington, and many other family members and friends.

A service will be held at the Cremation Society of Minnesota in Duluth on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. with a visitation starting at 9:00 a.m. A reception will follow the service. A burial will take place at St. Joseph’s Church.
