Mr. Wakefield was my fourth and fifth grade teacher at Central Park Elementary School and was the best teacher I have ever had! I was just thinking of him a few weeks ago and decided to look him up. Sadly, the first search result was of his passing.
He was an amazing person and for both years, he was my Christmas gift-exchange partner. Both years, he received puzzles from me and gifted me Peanuts books ... I still have them. I remember giving him a popcorn puzzle that I don't think he ever finished, and he laughed as he was glad it had nothing to do with Potatoes. Apparently, spuds were something that he consumed daily and not by choice. I wondered if he had ever grown to enjoy them again.
As friendly as he was, he expected his students to be disciplined while in his classroom and was proud to stand and recite The Pledge of Allegiance every morning.
I hope his family, friends, colleagues, and many appreciative students have found the comfort of just know this wonderful, wonderful human being. May God blesses you all.
