Obituary of Harvey Dean Tallackson

Harvey Dean Tallackson was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He left this world peacefully on July 27th, 2022, at the age of 97.

Born May 15, 1925, to Art and Mabel (McDougald) Tallackson in Grafton, ND. He attended Fertile District 62 rural school and graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural and Training High School in Park River, ND. He attended Adult Evening classes in Park River, ND. Harvey was united in marriage to Glenna Walstad on August 4, 1946. They established their home on a farmstead across from the family farm.

Harvey was active in his community and state activities. He was active in the Zion Lutheran Church, Rural Hoople – WCAS Alumni Assn. – Walsh Curling Club – State Curling assn. – Masonic Lodge – Kem Temple Shriners – Walsh County Fair – Walsh County Baseball League, Mandt Baseball Team – Walsh County Farmers Union – ND Milk Producers – National Potato Advisory Committee (1961-65) – National Conference of Insurance Legislator (President) – District 16, ND State Senator (32 years) – Chairman ND Senate Appropriations Committee (1987-93). Harvey was very active in the Rural Electric Co-ops. He served as Director of Nodak Electric and Minnkota Power Co-op for many years, serving as Minnkota Power Chairman from 1990 – 2005. He served as director for Nash Grain and Trading and as president for their 75th anniversary.

Harvey and Glenna moved to St Paul, MN in 2018, they were married for 73 ½ years. Harvey was preceded in death by his wife Glenna, his daughter Lynda (Gary) Ackert, his parents, and 5 brothers – Ross, Bert, Art Jr., Raymond and William. He is survived by 3 sisters – Faye Murie, Doris Lauf and Ruth Schwenker and 4 children – Thomas (Diane) Tallackson, Debra (Steve) Wilhelm, Amy (Dale) Elbert and Laura (Joe) Shoults, along with 13 grandchildren - Trevor Tallackson, Sarah (Tallackson) Liddicoat, Elizabeth Ackert, Andrew Elbert, Amanda (Elbert) Ashfield, Barry Tallackson, Christina (Ackert) KenKnight, Nicholas and Erich Wilhelm, Matthew Elbert, Jacob, Benjamin and Maria Shoults; and 16 great grandchildren. Harvey will be missed, but not forgotten.

Funeral service will be on Wednesday, September 7th at 1:00 pm, Zion Lutheran Church, Rural Hoople, ND.
