Sylvia Monson

Obituary of Sylvia Ann Monson

Sylvia Ann (Ziegenhagen) Monson passed away peacefully on July 26th, 2022 at the NC Little Hospice in Edina MN. She was a graduate of Faribault High School in 1952 and Concordia University, River Forest IL in 1959 and went on to teach in Lutheran elementary schools in Bonduel W, North Branch IL, East St. Paul and Redemption in Bloomington MN. 1964 she married Richard Monson of Taylors Falls MN.

God's path for Sylvia was faith and family. And she gave of herself to both fully. A loving mother, teacher, church librarian, organist/pianist - Sylvia loved classical music, reading, family time and the Timberwolves. Fond life memories include concerts at Orchestra Hall (season ticket holder for decades) and attending many sporting events of Rich, the children and grandchildren (baseball and basketball especially). Rich and Sylvia enjoyed many bus trips over the years e.g., to Branson MO, the East Coast, CA and Canada. Sylvia instilled grace, kindness and humility with family and friends, including the community at St. Luke's and Applewood Point (Bloomington). Sylvia loved spending  time with her bible study group, reminiscing with York Lane neighbors, and cherished Faribault high school friends. She was the family matriarch who we will honor Monday over a glass of her favorite A&W root beer, and invite you to wear a touch of pink in remembrance.

Preceded in death by parents August and Selma, husband Richard and sister Elaine Mae. Survived by brother Paul, children Steve (Lisa), Jeff (Britt), Sue Monson; and grandchildren Ryan, Emma, Megan, Ben and Sophia. A special thanks to Park Nicollet Methodist hospice and NC Little Hospice house for their wonderful care of Sylvia in her final days.

The funeral service is Monday, August 1 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Bloomington MN; visitation at 10am followed by service at 11am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Lutheran World Relief; donate.lwr.org. Guest book at cremationsocietyofmn.com. The service will be live streamed at Stlukesbloomington.org.
