Obituary of Catherine Ann Ambroz
Catherine Ann Ambroz, 83, of Minneapolis, died Saturday, June 11, 2022, with her children by her side. She made life so beautiful and interesting for us. Born in Minneapolis in 1939, she lost her dad in 1943 and her mom in 1947. Nuns became surrogate parents, and a game inventor (Herb Schaper) sent her to the College of St. Scholastica. Resilient by necessity and compassionate by choice, she was a fabulous mom, teacher, friend.
Cathy had a full career teaching elementary students in the Minnesota public schools of Bloomington, Perham, Slayton, Dodge Center, Triton, and in Fairfield, CA. She loved teaching and she was a natural: articulate, engaging, quick-witted, adaptable, compassionate, and tireless.
Cathy knew how to make a tough situation fun, “think of it as an experience.” She knew how to get by on a shoestring; she could craft a moving poem/story/letter; she painted with oils and acrylics; she sewed clothes/play outfits/table clothes; she organized parties and led student musicals; she sang in choirs from her youth to her 70s; she cultivated beautiful gardens and found peace in nature; she showered her children and grandchildren with unconditional love; she was a loyal friend; she thought about life and learned from all she did. She loved life.
Cathy’s family would like to thank the skilled nurses, doctors and staff at Methodist Hospital as well as the extraordinary caregivers at N.C. Little Hospice in Edina. Additionally, thanks to Mary, Blythe, Mike and the rest of the team at Nokomis Square for making her last several years peaceful and beautiful.
Cathy is survived by her two children, Janice Omacht (Peter Anderson) of Minneapolis and John Omacht (Carmen Gilbertson) of Stewartville, and by her beloved grandchildren James Anderson, Will Anderson, Charlie Anderson, Chase Omacht, Kyah Omacht, and Liam Omacht.
