Bonnie Tomczyk

Obituary of Bonnie Jean Tomczyk

Bonnie Jean (Heglund) Tomczyk, age 85, of Minnetonka, died peacefully on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at her home in New Perspective Assisted Living.  Bonnie trusted in her faith in Jesus and we know she is in his loving arms in heaven.

Bonnie was born on February 19, 1937 in Minneapolis, MN to Ernest and Bess (Adams) Heglund. She grew up in Hopkins, MN and attended Hopkins Schools, where she made many life long friends. She married Bill Tomczyk in 1959  Sadly, Bill succommed to his illness with Hodgkins disease shortly thereafter and Bonnie never remarried after that.  Bonnie had a deep love for her family and friends. She was an incredible Sister, Aunt, Foster Mother/Grandmother and Friend.

Bonnie worked at Red Owl for many years and became their first woman in management/bookkeeping, then continued her career in retail working at Daytons/Marshall Fields/Macys.  She always loved working with the customers and helping them find just the right outfit for their special occasion.  Bonnie had a day care in her home and continued to be in the lives of many of the kids until the day she died.

Through her life, Bonnie enjoyed antique collecting, playing cards with friends, traveling, skiing, being on the lake, and spending  time with family and friends.  She was the consummate hostess, welcoming guests in to her home with open arms and always making sure everyone had a good time. Bonnie would help out anyone in need without expecting anything in return, because she cared about people and didn't want anyone to suffer.  Bonnie became a foster parent to bring more meaning to her life, she took in three foster girls thru the years and loved and cared for them as if they were her own.  Bonnie was the first single foster parent in Hennepin County. She made an impression on everyone she met with her warm smile, sweet disposition and quick wit.

She was preceded in death by her husband William Tomczyk, Parents, Ernest and Bess (Adams) Heglund.  Bonnie is survived by her loving Sister Penny and husband Bob Lorence, Nieces Boni LaVelle (Fiance Rick Hartmann), Pamela (Erik) Nymo, Nephew Anthony LaVelle (Fiance Charise Powell), Great-Nephews Kaj and Ethan Bjerke, Anthony LaVelle, Great-Nieces Cloe and Leia Nymo, Lexcia Merrifield and Remy LaVelle.  Daughter Rebecca Thompson, Grandsons Steven and Kyle Thompson, Great-Granddaughter Melody Thompson and many other family and friends.
