Bernice Irene Vetsch

Age 83 of Saint Paul, MN passed away May 28th, 2022.  Bernice, was the 7th of 8 girls born to Peter and Hedwig Vetsch and was born on January 5th, 1939 in Rugby, ND.   She was raised in Minot, ND and moved to Saint Paul, MN in 1960 and remained in the city she loved until she passed.

Bernice was an incredible woman and served as an example of what we should all strive to be.   She had a heart of gold, a kind soul and an infectious laugh.   She was a lifelong learner and dedicated volunteer serving those less fortunate.   During her working years she loved her career working in the adult education field and had a Masters degree in Adult Education.   She was an avid reader with a growth mindset.  She loved photography, music, NPR, architecture and was an excellent Trivial Pursuit player.  She could answer virtually any trivia in history, literature, entertainment and science, her only hiccup was in the sports category.  In addition, Bernice was a very active volunteer in the DFL Party, knocked on hundreds of doors to help get candidates elected that she thought would help & published countless letters to the newspaper editor - always fighting for those less fortunate.  Bernice often skipped family holiday dinners so she could drive and serve food to the elderly.  She also was one of the rare people who would never forget to send a birthday card to her closest relatives.

Bernice loved her time living in the Wilder Park condos in St. Paul, where she lived for over 20+ years.  She had a great circle of friends who would enjoy a hot cup of coffee, good conversation and movie nights.  Bernice also cherished the time spent with her younger sister Betty.  Nearly every Saturday, Bernice and Betty would enjoy a nice lunch at Bakers Square followed by a good movie – the perfect day!

Bernice is survived by her sister Beatrice (Betty) and brother in law Gene Kent, along with many nieces & nephews.  The family would like to thank the staff of New Perspective Senior Living in Highland Park for their great care during the last 2 years while she lived there.  Upon Bernice’s request, there will be no funeral.  Please consider a donation to a favorite non-profit of Bernice’s – Friends & Co.
