Obituary of Jeanette Amidon

Amidon, (Mary) Jeanette passed away peacefully at her home in Edina, MN at the age of 90. Jeanette was born on July 1, 1931 in Marion, Indiana to Mac (Loran) and Mary McCoy. She grew up in Logansport, Indiana. Jeanette moved with her family to Minneapolis and attended the University of Minnesota where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Education and eventually obtained her Master’s degree. She taught in various settings from preschools to universities. Jeanette finished her career in Belmont, Massachusetts at Winn Brook Elementary School where she taught first grade from 1978-1996. Ms. Amidon was dearly loved by her students and was known for her unique style of teaching and love of reading which left a lasting impact on them. Jeanette had a love for music, traveling, flowers, family and especially for children.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, sister Dorothy Grund, and brother John McCoy. She is survived by her sister Margi Thorsell, Hawthorne, CA; nieces and nephews: Lyn Samp (John) ,Westwood, MA; Jeff Grund, Berkeley, CA; Steve Grund, Pittsburgh, PA, Andrea Grund (Winston Foley), Savannah, GA; Julie Kaner (Kip), Bloomington, MN; Tim McCoy, Mora, MN; Mary McCoy (Dan Headline), Brooklyn Park, MN; Patty McCoy, Bloomington, MN; Mark Thorsell (Anna), Redondo Beach, CA; Jody Thorsell, Great Falls, MT; Amy Laite (Josh), Crystal, MN. Great nieces and nephews, Kelly, Betsy, Stephanie, Krysta, Jessica, Robbie, Lauren, Katie, Bryce, and Sean. Special family, Mitsue Shindo, Jon Shindo, Gracia Reed, and Vera Shindo.

Celebration of Life will be held on May 31, 2022 from 3:30pm-5:30pm at the Cremation Society of MN 7110 France Ave S., Edina, with service at 4:45pm. Memorials to donors’ choice of charities.

Our family would like to thank the staff at Heritage of Edina for their loving care of Jeanette for the past eight years. We would also like to thank the Allina Edina Hospice team for their wonderful care and support.
