Obituary of Marjorie Lois Hanley
1937-2022
Preceded in death by parents, Rev. L. Keith and Caroline M. Hanley.
Marjorie is survived by daughters, Laurinda (Bob) and Denise; grandchildren, Tiffany, Jesse, Gina (Jeff), Lianne (Cruz), Keith (Katelyn), and Julia; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Larry (Borgny); sister, Wilma (Alan), and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Marjorie pushed boundaries. Born near Upland, IN, she graduated valedictorian of Frederic High School, studied at Hamline University where, in the 1950s, female students weren’t supposed to be interested in economics classes, and later finished her business administration degree at the University of St. Catherine’s weekend college.
She was employed with the former Campbell-Mithun Advertising for 35 years where she started as a secretary and became the firm’s first female account executive. Among her notable accomplishments, she organized, operated and judged the first Milk Carton Boat Race as a Minneapolis Aquatennial event for the Milk Foundation. The 50th anniversary of these races was celebrated in 2021.
In retirement, she was a volunteer with Unity Hospital and held leadership roles on the volunteer board. She was skilled in sewing, knitting, and crochet, leaving behind many cherished gifts for her family, both tangible and intangible.
