Obituary of Shannon Joy Larson

Shannon Joy Larson was born May 27, 1970 and ended her journey here peacefully  surrounded by family on January 2, 2022. 

Shannon was born and raised in Duluth, MN Central Hillside neighborhood. She graduated from Duluth Central HS in 1988. She went on to serve in the National Guard/US ARMY from 1988-1997. In 2004 she received the gift of organ donation, and received a liver transplant that was necessary due to a 100% service related illness. Thanks to this gift, she was able to raise her son Jacob, cheer him on in sports and see him graduate. She earned an Associate Degree in Human services and worked in the field helping people both in the twin cities and Duluth. She was able to hone & perfect her incredible sense of humor and style, thus securing the family titles of “Funniest” & “Best dressed”.  

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Milton and Helen Sweeney, as well as many close friends and family she lost too soon.  

She is survived by her son Jacob Thomas Nowlin-Larson, her mother Christine Niemi, her father Thomas Nowlin, sisters Hope Larson and Tara (Barry) Crotty, nieces Cheryl (Rich) Rozanski, Carinda Larson, Jessica Morris, Kaia & Kira Larson and her nephew Wyatt Nevin. She also had a large & loving extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends who love her and will miss her always. We are holding 2 celebrations for Shannon.
