Obituary of Michael Hunt Randall

The world lost a great Irish raconteur with the passing of Michael Hunt Randall on Sunday March 20.Mike was born on September 16, 1953 in Minneapolis. He grew up mostly in Bloomington and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1971. Mike earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Macalester College in 1975, majoring in political science and history. He worked full-time while attending William Mitchell College of Law and graduated in 1979. Mike served as a lawyer in St Paul, representing many people in need. He loved spending time with his two boys, Matt and Andy, whether on a baseball diamond, mixing up a good malted milk or reading bedtime stories. Mike also provided loving care for both of his parents in retirement.

Mike had a quick wit, encyclopedic knowledge of sports and brilliance in all things verbal. His day began with the New York Times crossword puzzle and rarely ended without careful analysis of Minnesota’s athletic agenda. At any family gathering, we could all count on amusing anecdotes culled from Mike’s view of life’s absurdities.

Mike is survived by his mother, Mary, in St Paul, two sons, Matthew (Matu) in Burnsville and Andrew in White Bear Lake and his former wife, Laurie, in Brooklyn Center. He is also survived by three sisters, Colleen (Jeff Friedman) in New Hampshire, Brigid in Minneapolis and Maura (Greg Kutcher) in Maple Grove, one brother, Brian (Mary Kemen) in Chanhassen and a sister-in-law, Cathleen in North Carolina. He is also survived by uncles Phillip Randall (Alice), William Hunt, Vincent Robert Hunt (Mary Kay), James and one aunt, Kathleen Hunt. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles, a brother, Brendan and aunts Margaret, Jane and Elizabeth.

We will miss Mike’s kind, gentle manner and his humorous take on life. A memorial service is planned in the coming weeks. You may visit the Cremation Society of Minnesota website for information on the date and location. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Every Meal, a food program for children.
