Obituary of Robert John Nyquist
Robert John “Bob” Nyquist, age 93 passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 13, 2022 in Waterview Shores Nursing Home in Two Harbors while battling cancer with his family by his side. He was a true fighter until the end. He was born in Two Harbors, MN in 1928 to John Oscar and Violet Nyquist. He graduated Two Harbors High School with the class of “46”. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict and when he returned back home he met the love of his life Marilyn Mattson at a dry dance in Duluth. Five years later they met again in Minneapolis and fell in love. They were happily married for 68 years and were true soulmates. He was employed by the D.M. and I.R. railroad for 12 years as an electrician. He then started the local business Reddi Electric with his good friend Bud Kragseth. After the business he was a construction electrician for I.B.E.W. local #242 until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, I.B.E.W., American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Two Harbors Golf Club. He was also a member of the Electrician Senior Retiree Club where he had so many good friends. He recently received his 70 year membership pin from the I.B.E.W. union.
Bob was preceded in death by his loving son Jeff. His parents John Oscar and Violet Nyquist. He is survived by his wife Marilyn Nyquist of Two Harbors; sister Laurie (Floyd) Johnson of New Brighton, MN; son John Nyquist of Maple Grove, MN; grandson Brian Nyquist of Crystal, MN; and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks go out to Dr. McMahon, Glen and Laurie, Julie, hospice nurse Debbie and all of the caretakers during his last few months. Also, his numerous McDonald’s and Senior Citizen Workshop friends where he helped many people with his true woodworking skills. He never forgot how he was such a lucky man to have so many true friends. Bob was a master craftsman building houses, cabins and most of the furniture in his families homes. He was very generous in all the woodworking projects he made at the Senior Citizen Workshop. There will be many friends playing cribbage on the boards that he built. He enjoyed spending time at the breakwater with his wife Marilyn. He also loved to dance and spend cold winters in the south with his wife.
He will be cremated by the Cremation Society in Duluth, MN. There will be a “Celebration of Life” in honor of Bob in Two Harbors in the coming weeks. Condolences and cards may be sent to John Nyquist, 9194 Goldenrod Lane North, Maple Grove, MN 55369
