Obituary of Dale Feiges

Dale Feiges, salesman, fisherman, world traveler, husband and father began his journey in Gary Indiana, on February 25, 1931. He joined his beloved Toby Sue Feiges on March 8, 2022.

Dale grew up in Racine, Wisconsin where he graduated from high school and learned the basics of his trade as a “schmatta” salesman. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War at the Great Lakes Naval Base. He met Toby Sue Goldberg in 1956 in Madison, WI and knew that she was the girl for him when on one of their first dates she ordered prime rib and picked up the rib bone to enjoy the best part. They married in August 1957 and moved to Minneapolis, MN, their home thereafter. Dale and Toby had four children, all of whom survive them. Debbie (David) Kretchmar currently lives in Glenview, IL where she is the Chief Compliance Officer of a financial services firm. Their second daughter is Lynn (Ron) Dunn who lives near Richmond, VA where she is a supply chain specialist. Steven Feiges was their only son and he followed in his father’s footsteps. In fact, he sells to many of the stores that Dale opened during his long career. Finally, Jennifer (Leigh Ann) Benito lives in San Diego, CA where she is a data governance consultant extraordinaire. Dale is also survived by his sister, Sandy (Leslie) Perlman who lives in San Diego, CA and multiple grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members and friends.

Dale traveled a six-state area selling women’s clothing until he retired at the age of 72. Toby was his partner in his work and once the kids grew up and moved out she joined him on the road. She was also his partner outside of work – they enjoyed fishing in and around Minnesota and in Canada. Their favorite fishing spots included Lake Waconia and Lake Minnetonka and Lake of the Woods in Canada. Dale and Toby also partnered up to become duplicate bridge Life Masters playing bridge locally and supporting national tournaments held in Minneapolis in the 1970’s and 1980’s. They also traveled extensively in the United States and around the world.

Dale was a people-person at his core and loved to make everyone he met laugh. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his family and friends telling his stories over a meal of great food and wine.

A special thank you to the staff at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Minneapolis. Their staff and volunteers made sure that Dale was well cared while it was his home. Per his request, no services will be held but a celebration of his life is tentatively planned. Details to follow.
