Obituary of Barbara Hook Montgomery
Montgomery, Barbara Hook, age 96, of Bloomington, died Feb. 5, 2022, after a life fulfilled by family, travel, and civic engagement. She grew up in Wapello, Iowa, attended the University of Iowa and graduated from the College of Nursing's Cadet Nurse Corps with her RN. After marrying Henry Montgomery in 1948, they lived in New Orleans where she worked as a nurse while he went to school. Moving back to Iowa, they raised their family first in Decorah and then Charles City, with a year and a half interlude in Trieste, Italy, before moving to Minnesota in 1978. She was predeceased by Henry, her children Priscilla and Andrew Montgomery, and her brother Robert Hook. She is survived by children Ruth, Michael and Kelly Montgomery, and five grandchildren. Services will be held March 3, 7pm at St. Nicholas Episcopal Church in Richfield, and streamed online at BMontgomeryMemorial.net. In lieu of flowers, Barbara had requested that donations be made to the WCA Foundation (mplsfdn.org/WCA), Guide Dogs for the Blind (guidedogs.com), or a charity of the donor’s choosing.
