Obituary of Paul A. Chapman

PAUL A. CHAPMAN

Chapman, Paul A. age 79 of Edina, MN. passed away peacefully at home on Jan 19, 2022. Born in Strokestown, Ireland, June 17, 1942, he emigrated to the US in his mid 20s. Predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Claire Chapman, and brother Mark. Survived by his wife of 53yrs, Marcia Chapman, daughters Deirdre (Jan Levy) Chapman of London, England and Eileen (Tony) Kamp of Edina, MN, grandchildren Eric, Wyatt, Arlo, Ailsa, Savannah, sisters Yvonne (Ken) Chapman Murphy and Adele (Justin) O’Callaghan of Dublin, Ireland, family and friends. 

Paul earned a Degree in Engineering from University College Dublin, and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota. He was hugely instrumental in starting the Univ of MN soccer program during his time at the University. 

He was known for his sweet nature, keen sense of humor, ever ready smile, and passionate interests in soccer, sailing, windsurfing, music and amateur dramatics. He was a keen creator, mathematician and teacher; teaching computer programming at the local community colleges, developing his own computer formula for stock analysis and associated business, building a catamaran of his own design… he always had a project of some sort on the go at the family home. He loved music and dancing, always a ready dance partner for his talented dancing wife, Marcia, and played both the violin and guitar. He also loved spending time with family and friends. 

 A memorial and celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 30th, 2022 at the Cremation Society of MN.
