Obituary of Lucy Ellen Halterman

Lucy E. Halterman, age 95, passed away over the holidays in Maplewood.

She was born November 27, 1926 in Havana IL to Leo and Nettie Hopping. Lucy went to nursing school in Peoria IL where she gained her degree and became a RN just like her big sister Bessie. Over the years, Lucy made lifelong friends wherever she worked, lived, or visited including Miller and United Hospitals and her residences in Cottage Grove, Maplewood, West St. Paul, Oakdale, and her snowbird years in Florida. Her life work was giving care to patients in the Intensive Care units and as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and mother in-law to her very large family. Lucy was a passionate woman whose spitfire, but kind personality endeared her to whomever she met. Whenever she could, you would find Lucy doing the things she liked best, bird watching and feeding, arts and crafts, baking, hunting for shells, and most of all fishing at the lake.

Lucy’s greatest achievements were as a kind caring mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her family was her joy, and they, in turn, loved her even more. She was always there attending graduations, sporting events, helping her children and grandchildren learn to fish, learn about birds, and most of all appreciate what you have. She loved her family unconditionally. Her children and grandchildren loved her holiday treats of fudge, Chex Mix, and puppy chow.

Preceded in death by her parents, sisters Bessie, Mildred, Harriet and her son Dale (Marcia), and daughter Sue (Paddy), grandchildren Cody, Terrance Jr, Carrie, great grandchildren Ryan, son-in-law Terrance Sr., she is survived by daughters and son Vickie Reinhardt (Gerald) of Palisade MN; Judy Halterman of Amery WI; Mary Robinson of Federal Dam MN; Mark Halterman of Inver Grove Heights MN; grandchildren Linda (Troy), Kathy (Sean), Karen, Julie, Shawn (Jessica), Jason (Adrienne), Spenser, Sherry, Beth, Carmen, Lexi, Taryn, Sam; great grandchildren Logan, Isabella, Kelsi, Garrett, Joseph, Hayden, Gavin, Keegan, Ilia, Tracy, Esme, Anthony, Derek, Ayj, Terrance III, Jake; great great grandchildren Ariah and Alayna, and her nieces and nephew. She will be missed dearly.

A Celebration of Life will occur on Friday January 7th from 10am-Noon at the Cremation Society of Minnesota located at 1979 Old Hudson Rd, St Paul, MN 55119
