Obituary of James Arlan Larson
James Arlan Larson, 88, passed away on December 19, 2021 in Duluth. He was born on February 20, 1933 in Larimore, ND to Ruth and Godfred Larson.
Jim grew up in Duluth, graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1951, attended the University of Minnesota Duluth, and earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical science from North Dakota State University in 1957. He and Mary Williams of Duluth were wed on August 26, 1955. Jim was a pharmacist in Fargo, ND, St. Cloud, MN, Iowa City, IA, and returned to Duluth in 1959 to work for Medical Arts Pharmacy. He was a pharmacist at Medical Arts for 32 years.
Jim was an active member of the Norton Park United Methodist Church. He was an usher, Sunday School teacher, and administrative board member for several years. He served as chairman of the board and as a trustee.
Family survivors of Jim are his wife of 66 years, Mary Larson; children James “Jay” (Maureen) Larson of Rockville, MD; Kathryn (Lance) Cavanaugh of Green Bay, WI; David (Charlotte) Larson of Highland, CA; and grandchildren Elizabeth Cavanaugh, Laura Cavanaugh, John Cavanaugh, James Cavanaugh, Elise Larson, Eric Larson, Kaizer Larson, and Jantzen Larson.
The family is grateful to relatives and friends for their compassion, support, and help. In addition, the family is thankful to St. Luke’s Hospice and North Shore Estates for their exceptional care.
A celebration of life service for Jim will be scheduled in 2022 when the COVID-19 pandemic situation improves.
