Obituary of Mary Jane Schmitt

MARY JANE SCHMITT

1925-2021

Mary Jane Schmitt, age 96, died of natural causes on December 6, 2021, following two days of bedside vigil kept by her family. Born and raised on the West Side of St. Paul, Mary Jane had been living at Ecumen’s Lakeview Commons since the beginning of 2017.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Lillian Eret; and, siblings Fran Hurley, Lou Eret, Lucille Piper, and Father Francis “Bud” Eret.

Mary Jane is survived by her seven children: Jane (John) Reish of Green Valley, AZ; Tiger Schmitt (Grace) of St Paul; Susan Narber (Kip) of Bend, OR; Matt Schmitt (Deb Robinson) of Shoreview; Bill Schmitt (Liz) of Mahtomedi; Liz Schmitt (Bob Correia) of Kasilof, AK; and Lou Schmitt (Cheri) of Bend, OR. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Jeff Reish (Eileen); Chris Stading (Joel); Matt Schmitt (Greta); Peter Schmitt (Marais Bjornberg Schmitt); Sasha Potter (Sam); Carly Brandelius (Sven); Erica Bauer (Ben); and, Olivia and Ryan Schmitt; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Many thanks to the staff of Lakeview Commons and Ecumen Hospice for the love and care given to Mary Jane these past five years. There are many “crossword puzzle converts” among you.

A memorial service will be held in the Spring of 2022.
