Obituary of Marvis L Haas

Age 93 of Edina passed away at M Health Fairview Southdale hospital on November 14, 2021 from a
non-Covid related cardiac event. Marv was born in Killdeer, ND on August 9, 1928. He was raised in
West Fargo and was a very proud graduate of Oak Grove Lutheran High School, attending his 75 th high
school reunion in October. He joined the Army in 1946 and served in Korea, beginning a love of world
travel. Upon discharge he attended Augsburg College. He married Janet Lee Nelson in November 1950
and they were married for 58 years until Janet’s passing in May 2009.
Marv worked as a bookkeeper at Cargill, Norris Creamery milkman, sold life insurance for John Hancock,
was an investigator for Hennepin county, sold fences, and delivered cars for dealerships; his last car
delivery was on his 90th birthday. He was also a proud past Commander at Legion Post 396.
He will be remembered for never staying in one place for too long, his legendary card playing skills, and
an uncanny ability to make friends wherever he was -- Bloomington to Bangkok.

Marv is preceded by his wife Janet Lee, his parents Louis Heath Haas and Ann Eliza Werner Haas, his
twin sister Mavis Kirst, his brothers Dean and Stanley and his sister Suzanne Johnson.
Survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Bernie Haas, Jim and Tere Haas; daughter and son-in-
law Nancy and Keith Narr. Grandchildren, Dan (Angie) Haas, Tracy Schleicher, Jenni (Kevin) Engebretson,
Dara Haas and Betsy Narr (Christian Shull). Nine great-grandchildren and eight great- great-
grandchildren. Brother, Harold Haas; Sister, Peggy (Gary) Sparr. Nieces, nephews, many dear friends,
many of whom were good card players.
Service Monday, November 29 at 2PM Normandale Lutheran Church, 6100 Normandale Rd., Edina.
Visitation one hour prior to service at church. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Normandale Lutheran Church Foundation and/or Disabled
American Veterans. Masks are required at church and social distancing is preferred.
