Obituary of Fred A. Poisson
84, Plymouth, MN (originally from Orono) passed away due to complications of Covid 19, on October 7th.
Preceded in death by his parents Fred Poisson Sr. and Anna Swanson, his sister Nancy Heinsch, and his son David Poisson. Survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia Poisson, and children: Robert (Mindy), Suzanne Ryan, James, Paul, Mark McLarty (Lori), Kelly Breault (Ben), daughter in law Stephanie, and his grandchildren: Alex, Heather, Season, Jason, Sarah, Sabrina, MacKenzie, Thomas, Joseph, Maggie, Taylor, and Cooper.
Fred graduated Orono High School and the Dunwoody Institute. He served on the Orono planning Commission and was a member of the Lions Club in his younger years. He had a strong interest in and knowledge of the history of the Lake Minnetonka area. Stubbs Bay was his ‘home town’ even while he and his wife, Patti, lived in Long Lake, Buffalo, and Plymouth. He spent time every summer since he was 14 yrs old in the BWCA canoeing, camping, fishing and boating. He and Patti built their cabin in Ely which was his favorite place to be from April through October for 34 years. He loved having his entire family, along with many friends, share time with him there for summer fun!
He started working in the architecture/design field at 19 years old and has many commercial building projects in the portfolio of his former architecture firm in Wayzata – Kilstofte & Poisson. He never wanted to retire, so the last half of his life was spent working with Halcon Corporation designing award winning contract furniture. He also designed several contemporary homes with a strong talent for enabling his clients to understand and fall in love with his design visions. He had many artistic skills mainly evidenced by his fine woodworking pieces treasured by friends and family alike, also selling at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival for 8 years.
He and his wife loved entertaining family and friends, especially during the holidays…always with a full bar and wine selections. They so enjoyed traveling to different areas of the world…always wishing there was more time to do so.
A memorial gathering will take place on 10/30/21 with a reception from 10:00-11:00 followed by a service at The Cremation Society, 7110 France Ave So, Edina, Minnesota 55435. Memorials preferred to the charity of your choice.
