Obituary of David E. Hartwick

David Emmett Hartwick passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on Saturday, October 9, 2021 doing what he loved… Napping in his favorite chair. At 74, he led an amazing life full of family and friends.

Born to Del and Kathryn (Olson) Hartwick in 1947 in Duluth, MN. An avid outdoorsman David loved to spend time at the cabin with his wife, Jeanne, and sons; where they would fish, hunt, and play cribbage. A “brick layer” by trade, David spent much of his career as a salesmen and partner of Standard Brick and Supply, retiring in 2013 as Outside Sales Rep of Brock-White.

David enjoyed traveling with his family, attending many Shrine events and visiting local attractions throughout the US. He and Jeanne spent the last few years traveling to St. George Island, FL, hosting family and friends, and road tripping around the country for a few months each winter. His newly discovered passion has been riding his new E-bike on nice days, putting on over 500 miles this past summer alone.

David enjoyed active membership in numerous Masonic and Shrine organizations. He served as a past Master of Ionic Lodge 186, he received the Hiram Award from the lodge in 2011. He was a Thirty-second Degree member of the Duluth Valley of the Scottish Rite, and many local Shrine organizations, including the Director’s Staff, the Jesters, and the Drum and Bugle Corp; which he joined with his sons Sterling and Steven. He served on the Board of Governors and was a past president of the Shrine Directors’ Association.

David is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne; sons, Sterling (Suzy) Hartwick, Steven (Maddie) Voltmer, Scott and John Hartwick; grandson, Donald Voltmer; sister, Mary (Steve) McDonald; Brothers-in Law, Gordon “BI” (Tyra) and Alan Adams; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Del and Kathryn Hartwick and brother, Jon Hartwick.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, October 23, 2021 at the AAD Shrine Event Center in Hermantown. Visitation beginning at 11AM, Masonic and Memorial services at 12PM, followed by fellowship with family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in honor of David be sent to the AAD Shrine.
