Obituary of Betty Anne Everett

Betty Anne Everett passed away on October 8, 2021 at the age of 92.

Born in Duluth on September 1, 1929, Betty was raised on her parent’s farm in Munger, Minnesota. Her father was Avalt Leiste and her mother was named Anna. Betty married her husband Larry (Mickey) Everett on August 26, 1953 and had five children, Joe, Christy (Dan) Mahoney, Cathy (Larry) Larsen, Wendy (Tim Broeffle), and Jeff (Vanessa) Everett. Betty has four grandchildren, Jennifer (Russ) Carter, Haley (Mark) Holtan, Darian Nelson, and Dalton Everett. Betty has four great grandchildren, Lucy and Stella Carter, and Roberta and Matilda Holtan. Betty’s three sisters, Lorraine (Ed) Weiler, Alice (Bertel) Johnson, and June (Dick) Wilmot all passed away earlier. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many friends from Munger.

Betty graduated from Proctor High School in 1947 and obtained a bookkeeping degree from Duluth Business University and worked at Jeronimus Florists as a bookkeeper before becoming a homemaker. Betty was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Munger and was active in the Solway Township Senior Citizens Club, Good Fellowship Club, Birthday Club, Monday Bunch, and Solway Fire Department’s “Flamettes”. Betty was named Solway Township Volunteer of the Year in 2002 and in 2006 was St. Louis County Senior Citizen of the Year at the same age her mother Anna won the award in 1984. Betty was also an election judge and volunteered at the South St. Louis County Fair. She enjoyed watching sports, especially the Minnesota Twins, Vikings, and golf. She had a passion for reading, usually reading five or more novels a week. Betty was a tremendous cook, just like her mother, and fed her family with beef and vegetables from the farm in Munger. Her husband once said, “Some people might have things we don’t have, but NO ONE eats better than us”. She loved to work all day in the garden and spent countless hours canning and freezing vegetables for the rest of the year.

The family wants to thank Yvonne Puhl for all the friendship and assistance she provided Betty for many years. Special thanks to Pastor Stafford Thompson for coming into her life at such an important time. The family also thanks the staff at St. Luke’s Hospital for providing such compassionate care toward the end of her life and all the staff at Edgewood Vista where she enjoyed living the last three years.

There will be a celebration of life at Hope Lutheran Church on October 23rd with a 1:00 pm visitation until the 2:00 pm service and burial. Masks will be required. Hope Lutheran Church is at 4093 Munger Shaw Road at the intersection of Maple Grove Road and Munger Shaw Road in Munger.
