Mrs. DeAnna Mandigo Posted Nov 20, 2022 at 10:42 PM
I chose to light 2 special candles: one green for her love of all things gardening, her passion. In memory of Her Green Thumb. I lit a yellow candle for her love of being outside in the sunshine whenever the weather allowed her to. She was lively, and loved being outside-she did this every sunny day-it’s the main reason she refused to sell or leave her beloved farm & house. She lived there as long as her health allowed her to do so.These are the colors that remind me of Granma Gabrielson.

I am so terribly sorry for the loss of Granma Gabrielson, as she was beloved by me very much. She was Fiesty and Sassy, Witty and fiercely independent-all the best parts of her personality, and who she was as a woman, but if she loved you she would love you for life. She always loved me, and her Homemade Fudge was the only fudge I ever ate and will ever eat-No person or candy company anywhere on earth-could make fudge like she could. That’s a fact, because I am not a candy or sweets eating-loving woman, but I sure did love her Fudge! And Only her Fudge, including her homemade mint chocolate chip cookies and Oatmeal Cookies-but No sweet she ever made was better than her Fudge. I can’t even bring myself to buy it in a candy shop again, as her fudge was the only fudge I have ever craved-in my life! I never crave anything sweet-but anytime she sent me fudge, I just couldn’t get enough! I wish I could have spent more time with her in person, but I am honored and so thankful to get phone calls from her and write letters to her, where she would read them, call me to thank me for such a long letter, and we would talk until she had to start supper or go inside because she finished her gardening. You had to earn her respect and have manners to be in her presence-especially in her home(her beloved farmhouse) if you didn't know her very well, and were invited to supper or to her house-but if you earned her respect, she would welcome you and treat you as her family. I am so grateful every day to have had her love and respect. To actually get to know her through calls. Her and Granpa Gabrielson always accepted me as well as all Eugenes siblings too-distance doesn’t matter-you all still accepted me, so thank you so much for sharing your beloved Mother and Father with me, and know that I truly love you all so very much. I know now that Eugene is my biological father.. and I am sorry that I didn’t have a chance to support you at this most difficult time. You are all in my thoughts and prayers, continually. You are my family and have always treated me as such, and you must know that all the calls that were made to us ever made me happy and Eugene happy too, as well as my Mom Alberta, who you all loved dearly. Granma Gabrielson was a fighter-and a lover of life, as seen in all her photos. She was the most independent woman I have ever known. I know I get my independence from her and my Moms mother Nana Rose McCoy. When Granma wanted to do something-no one could stop her-not even her family! She never gave up, and still moved, gardened, cooked, spent time with her family, and lived her life to the fullest-all while fully embracing her old body-but she was not going to let that make her sit down! She got up and moved! I will miss her deeply and remember her always, while loving her for life and after. Thank you for sharing, especially the picture of her because even though I am so sad for you all, and everyone she loved, as well as everyone who knew her, I am comforted to see her photo because I now have a picture to remember her by.
Rest In Heavenly Peace Granma Gabrielson and take care of Granpa Marvin for me.
Love Always,
DeAnna & Art Mandigo, and the entire Mandigo family.
