Obituary of Gerald Edward Wohnoutka
Gerald Edward (Jerry) Wohnoutka. Age 76 of Richfield, MN passed away peacefully in his sleep, at home surrounded by his loving family, on September 26, 2021. He was born in Redwood Falls, MN on July 17, 1945, attended college at the University of Minnesota, where he also finished his career as a pharmacist at the University hospital in 2009. While he was a pharmacist by trade, he was so much more: to his wife he was a devoted husband of 50 years; to his kids he was a father who was always there with love and support; to his grandkids he wasn’t just grandpa, he was the ice cream guy, Minnesota grandpa and a diabetes buddy; and to his extended family and friends he was a kind and generous person. Jerry loved spending time with friends and family, golfing, biking, fishing, and hunting. He was preceded in death by parents William & Helena Wohnoutka, 2 brothers, 1 nephew and 3 nieces. Survived by wife Sue Wohnoutka of Richfield, MN, son Chris (Lori), daughter Annemarie (Nathan), daughter Megan, 4 grandsons Jack, Ben, Nick and Andrew and 3 granddaughters Grace, Allison and Ava. Jerry is also survived by 7 sisters, 1 brother and their families. In celebration of Jerry’s life, a visitation will be held on Monday, October 4 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Cremation Society of Minnesota (7110 France Avenue South, Edina, MN 55435). A memorial service will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church (4537 3rd Ave. So. Minneapolis, MN 55419) on Tuesday, October 5 with a brief visitation at 10:30 AM, mass at 11:00 AM followed by a luncheon at the church. It was Jerry’s wish that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association.
