Obituary of Dale Edward Peterson

 

Dale Edward Peterson, died on September 1, 2021 in Chisago City, Minnesota surrounded by his loving family.  Dale was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on January 2, 1945.  He grew up in Chisago City, Minnesota attending Chisago City High School where he was a standout student and athlete in basketball and football. After graduating from Hamline University and completing his Masters in mathematics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), he married the love of his life and best friend Cheryl (Jensen) Peterson. He later obtained his PhD in differential equations from UNL.  During their time in Nebraska, Dale and Cheryl had four kids and in 1985 decided it was time to move back closer to family in Minnesota. 

Dale was a mathematics teacher and coach in the Chisago Lakes School District for eighteen years and was loved by many students, being asked to tutor and help often after they graduated.  Dale was inducted into the Chisago Lakes Area Schools Wall of Fame in 2013 for his leadership on the 1963 basketball team and for being a Minnesota teacher of the year finalist.  Dale was well known for his wit, humor, kindness, musical and poetic talent, creativity, athleticism and determination.  Later in life, Dale was most known for his love of his grandkids! 

He is preceded in death by his mother Ruby Peterson and father Frank Peterson.  Dale is survived by his wife Cheryl and sister LouAnn Freeman; his children Jeffrey Peterson (Haekyong Kim), Angela Kaso (Artan Kaso), Laura Hochban (Nick Hochban), David Peterson (Megan Peterson) and ten grandkids-Hana, Sara, Nolan, Adrian, Elise, Andrew, Ellery, Arthur, Matilda, and Harald.  Visitation will be held on September 12 at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Chisago City.  A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. immediately following the visitation.  The celebration of life service will be recorded and a link will be provided by the family upon request.  Masks and social distancing are required.  Memorials will be used for a scholarship fund at Chisago Lakes High School for students pursuing a STEM college degree or will go to Zion Lutheran Church.
